P-47 Thunderbolt Assembly

Uncrating and Assembly of the P-47 Thunderbolt Aircraft. 
Presented by the Army Air Force School of applied Tactics.
Made in cooperation with Republic Aviation Corporation 1943.

Demonstrates the Thunderbolt in dives, loops, slow rolls, Immelman turns, spins, and recoveries, and half rolls. Stresses precautions and proper speeds for various altitudes. Also explains functions of turbo supercharger and water injection systems in high altitude flight.

Describes flight characteristics of the P-47 Thunderbolt, including service ceiling, speed, power, fuel consumption, turbo supercharger system, use of turbo and throttled landing gear and flaps, armament, and switch and control panel. Shows use of the P-47 cockpit trainer.

The Mighty Eighth

At one time in the days before Pearl Harbor, it had been hoped that it would be possible for the RAF to test the Thunderbolt in combat in the Middle East. However, production difficulties caused the British Air Ministry to be informed in September 1941 that it was not a good idea to do this until all the bugs had been wrung out of the design.

BOSNIA: F-16 Pilot Rescued

BOSNIA: F-16 PILOT RESCUED: Captain Scott O'Grady F-16 pilot shot down by the Bosnian Serbs on 2.6.95, was rescued, after six days living rough and in hiding. Early this morning another F-16 picked up his SOS signal from the ground, and at dawn two helicopters, accompanied by jets, were dispatched to Bosnia to rescue him, coming under fire as they did so.
