Lt Col Steven C. Schrader

Lt Col Steven Schrader was born on 30 November 1958 in St Paul, MN. He graduated from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, CA, where he lettered in football and was a member of the AFJROTC. He attended the University of Southern California, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1980, and continued to complete his Masters in Aerospace Engineering in 1981.

He attended UPT at Vance AFB, OK, in 1981-82 and won the ATC flying award. He went on to F-16 training at Hill AFB, UT, where he was a distinguished graduate. Following Hill, he was assigned to Hahn AB, Germany, from 1982-85 as the Squadron and Wing Scheduler. From Hahn, he was assigned to Kunsan, ROK, from 1986-87 as the Standardization and Evaluation Flight Examiner.

He then went to Fighter Weapons School Aug - Dec 86. His following assignments included Misawa AB, Japan, 1987-91, as the Weapons Officer and Flight Commander, where he was awarded the IG Outstanding Performer in the 1988 ORI; Eielson AFB, AK, 1991-94, as the Chief of Standardization and Evaluations and Quality Assurance for the 343rd Operations Group and Assistant Operations Officer for the 18th Fighter Squadron.

He attended ACSC in 1994-95, where he won the Commandant’s Research Excellence Award. He went on to serve on the HQ USAF Air Staff from 1995-98, and then as the 510 FS Operations Officer, Aviano Air Base, Italy from 1998-99. He took command of the Buzzards 18 Jun 99.

He is married to Diane M. Schrader of Niles Illinois. They have a daughter, Anna, 9 and two sons, Jack, 11, and Sam, 6.
